Martin appointed as vice president for finance and chief business officer

TUSKEGEE, Ala. (May 20, 2011) – Tuskegee University President Gilbert L. Rochon appointed Stephen Martin, MBA, CPA as vice president for finance and chief business officer, effective May 23. Martin most recently served as interim vice president for business and fiscal affairs and chief financial officer for the university. He also worked as senior director of internal auditing and risk assessment at the university. 

Martin received his bachelor’s degree in Latin and MBA in accounting from Tulane University in New Orleans.

Martin is a seasoned certified public accountant with more than 20 years of experience in higher education, government and corporate accounting sectors. He developed continuing education courses for CPAs while serving as product manager for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He also has served as an assistant professor of accounting at Dillard University in New Orleans.

Prior to coming to Tuskegee, Martin held the position of revenue agent in the Communications, Technology and Media Division in Atlanta, and the Natural Resources Division in Dallas with the Department of Treasury – Internal Revenue Service.  In this position, he coordinated a team of specialists that included international examiners, economists, financial products examiners, engineers, employment tax specialists and tax computation specialists.  His cases included large corporations in a wide array of sectors, including entertainment and media, oil and gas, and natural resources and mining, with assets over $4 billion with international operations, tax shelters, limited liability companies and standalone subsidiaries of international corporations.

Prior to his position with the IRS, he served as vice president for administration and chief financial officer with Texas Wesleyan University (Fort Worth, Texas); vice president for business affairs and CFO with Delgado Community College (New Orleans); and director of internal auditing with Tulane University and Medical Center (New Orleans).
