5/9/2011

TUSKEGEE, Ala. (May 9, 2011) — Carroll A. Baltimore Sr., president of the Progressive National Baptist Convention Inc., delivered the baccalaureate sermon to graduating seniors on May 7 in the Gen. Daniel “Chappie” James Arena. The religious service preceded commencement exercises, which were held May 8.

“The world is waiting for you,” Baltimore told the then-prospective graduates. “The future is bright, but there will be some major challenges along the way.”

Baltimore, also a leader in education, said the definitions of prosperity and success are plentiful, but one must pay attention to not only one’s career, but one’s personal life as well.

“You can be successful publicly, but a failure privately,” he said. “God made an investment in your life. Finish the task.”

After the sermon, Tuskegee University President Gilbert L. Rochon presented Baltimore with the President’s Distinguished Service Award.
