TUSKEGEE, Ala. (April 30, 2014) — The Office of the Provost and the Tuskegee-Center for Academic Excellence and Innovative Learning (T-CAEIL) held a recognition ceremony Tuesday for the center’s student tutors, support staff and faculty. Held in the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center at Tuskegee University ballroom, the luncheon event highlighted the accomplishments and success stories of the program.

Dr. Walter Hill, provost and dean of the College of Agriculture, Environment and Nutrition Sciences, said that T-CAEIL has been instrumental in improving student retention and pass rates for freshmen. He urged the student tutors and staff to continue to pass on their talents and help the others improve.

“Awesome, T-CAEIL. You’re dynamic and making a difference at Tuskegee University,” Hill said.

Student tutors and clients also shared stories about T-CAEIL has changed their lives. Before coming for tutoring, Tiffany Reynolds said she hated math and did not know how she would get through the advanced courses needed for her major. The sophomore in aerospace engineering used the math tutors during her entire freshman year. Her hard work paid off and she excelled in all her math classes and has a 3.97 GPA.

“I believe that T-CAEIL is a service provided for students to help build their minds academically, but T-CAEIL also built my confidence,” Reynolds said.

Sherry King, the program’s director, gave certificates and awards to all T-CAEIL’s direct and indirect supporters. She said that she and the program thrived with their help. She also said that the program is a vital component in helping create student and alumni success.

“I need you to survive,” King told the audience. “I need for faculty, staff and administrators to continue to make our students proud and when they hear about things like this today, I know that they are going to be alumni and they are going to make great things happen.”
