Tuskegee University to hold pre-commencement ceremonies
TUSKEGEE, Ala. (May 7, 2012) —Tuskegee University will honor the graduates of several degree programs before spring commencement this week.
There will be a pinning ceremony for social work graduates on Thursday at 6 p.m. in John A. Kenney Auditorium of the Tuskegee University National Center for Bioethics in Research and Health Care. The speaker will be Rev. Christine Bradshaw. At 7 p.m., an induction ceremony for School of Education graduates will be held in Ballroom B and C in the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center at Tuskegee University. The speaker for the event is Phil Rodney Wilson, the 2010 Alabama Teacher of the Year.
On Friday, there will be a capping and pinning ceremony for nursing and allied health students in the Tuskegee University Chapel at 1 p.m. The speaker will be Greshundria Raines, assistant professor and academic fieldwork coordinator at Alabama State University’s College of Health Sciences and acting program director of ASU’s Department of Occupational Therapy.
Also at 1 p.m., the Order of Engineer ceremony will be held at Luther Foster Hall Auditorium. At 3 p.m. in the chapel, Army and Air Force ROTC cadets will be commissioned as new U.S. military officers. Lt. Gen. William N. Phillips, the principal military deputy to the assistant secretary of the U.S. Army (Acquisition Logistics and Technology) and director of acquisition career management will be the speaker.
Dr. Rajiv Shah, the 16th administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will speak at the baccalaureate ceremony for all graduates on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the Gen. Daniel “Chappie” James Center for Aerospace Science and Health Education.
Founder of the Grameen Bank and 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Muhammad Yunus, will be the keynote speaker for the 2012 spring commencement at 10 a.m. in the “Chappie” James Center. Immediately following commencement, the administration of the veterinary medicine oath will take place in the university chapel for veterinary medicine graduates.
