The Director of Human Resources, reportable to the President, has line responsibility for strategic leadership in the planning and implementation of quality-based, integrated human resources (HR) programs for all faculty and staff in a manner consistent with the University's vision, mission and values.  The Director will lead the University-wide HR functions, including recruitment, retention and talent management, wage and salary administration, compensation and benefits administration, policy development, documentation and compliance, performance management/improvements, counseling and training, organizational development, employee relations and services and conflict resolution, employee records and information systems, diversity programs, and other related programs.

Essential Duties

  • Administer an HR strategy for operations, implementation of programs, and coordination of HR processes, systems, policies and procedures pertaining to all HR activities and services that advance the University's mission and support the well-being of its employees
  • Develop planning objectives to identify competency, knowledge and talent gaps and develop specific programs for the filling of the gaps. Areas of activity will include talent management, training programs and other developmental programs for University employees
  • Manage the administration of University compensation and benefit programs
  • Develop strong working relationships with all levels of management and staff to provide support to a variety of organizational units in a wide range of HR specializations using an interpersonal style that is solution oriented and engages individuals from all backgrounds/levels of the organization
  • Provide employee relations counseling, mediation and coaching for employees and managers
  • Develop appropriate policies and procedures for effective management and utilization of the human resource information systems database in streamlining processes and identifying best practices as well as institutional compliance with local, state and federal employment laws and HR requirements
  • Interpret and reviews all regulations and policies related to HR activities and advise senior administration on improvement and revisions
  • Maintain certification/currency in the Human Resource profession by attending workshops/seminars and reading professional literature

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the President.


  • Master’s degree in HR Management, Business Management, Public Administration or related field
  • Candidates should have at least 5 years  of experience in Human Resource Management
  • Candidate should have a minimum of 3 year of experience in higher education
  • Knowledge of relevant state and federal employment laws and compliance requirements applicable to HR
  • Exceptional analytical, evaluative, research and other critical thinking skills to arrive at valid conclusions and make recommendations and action plans
  • Strong work ethic, character and personal integrity with ability to work with the utmost professionalism, discretion and confidentially
  • Provide excellent customer service in a courteous manner
    • Must be a team player

Additional Desirable Qualifications

  • SPHR certification (or whatever is relevant and recognized in the HR field as valid certification  with certain criteria required before taking exam for certification)
  • A demonstrated record of leadership in human resources, preferably in a University setting,  and the ability to evaluate best practices in human resources, initiate change and lead improvement efforts through innovative ideas and technology
  • Ability to work collaboratively in supporting a variety of organizational units in a wide range of HR specializations
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and human relation skills, effective time management and leadership skills, a strong customer service orientation
  • Thorough knowledge of regulations governing human resource functions and experience with human resource information systems development
  •  Excellent organizational and project management capability, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional oral, written and interpersonal skills
