Cheerleader Tryout Information

Cheerleader tryouts are a three-day process and open for public viewing.  Cheerleaders are chosen for the entire year and are expected to participate in all squad functions.  Prior cheerleading experience (all-star, highschool, collegiate) is required. We are looking for young men and women who:

  • can execute strong, precise motions, jumps and dance movements
  • can learn and perfect material quickly
  • can perform collegiate level tumbling skills (handsprings, tucks, combination passes, etc.)
  • have a willingness to try new stunting and tumbling skills
  • are able to project their voice in an expressive manner
  • are responsible, dedicated, self-motivated, competitive, creative team players

 

REQUIREMENTS




Administrative

Former TU Student-Athletes (2013-2014)

New to TU Athletics (2014-2015)

·         Financially cleared

·         Financially cleared

·         CGPA 2.000 or better

·         Sickle Cell Test Results

·         Athletic physical within the last six (6) months before tryouts

·         Athletic physical within the last six (6) months before tryouts

·         Copy of current insurance card (front/back)

·         Copy of current insurance card (front/back)

·         Signed commitment letter

·         Signed commitment letter

·         Completed application

·         Completed application

Skills

  • Correct, strong, precise cheer motions
  • Jumps (L/R Herkie, L/R Hurdler, Toe-Touch, Double Toe-Touch, Pike)
  • Cheer/Chant/Dance (material will be taught)
  • Vocal clarity and volume
** Students must be comfortable with any tumbling skills they attempt to perform on a basketball court without a spotter. **



Attire

All interested students must wear a t-shirt, shorts, socks and flat-bottomed athletic shoes with laces.  The shirt and shorts should not be excessively loose or tight.  No jewelry, tanks, biker shorts or leggings/tights (without proper cover).
