Tuskegee, Ala. — In a powerful demonstration of brotherhood, service, and commitment to education, the Gamma Phi Chapter Alumni of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. presented a $150,000 gift to Tuskegee University President and CEO Dr. Mark A. Brown ’86 in honor of his investiture as the university’s 10th president.

Adding to the celebration, Alpha Phi Alpha General President Lucien J. Metellus Jr. personally announced a $25,000 gift, along with another $25,000 gift wired that afternoon from Brother Lionel Richie ’74 , bringing the total Alpha Phi Alpha contribution to $200,000 in support of Tuskegee University.

The presentation took place on Thursday, September 18, during a black-tie reception hosted by the Gamma Phi Chapter Alumni at the Utilities Board of the City of Tuskegee. The event brought together fraternity brothers from all around the country to celebrate Dr. Brown’s historic appointment as the first Tuskegee alumnus to lead the institution.

“This gift represents not only our respect for our brother, Dr. Mark A. Brown, but also our commitment to advancing the mission of Tuskegee University,” said Dr. Van B. Sapp ’85, co-organizer of the reception. “As sons of Alpha and proud Golden Tigers, we believe in putting our resources into action. This contribution is a symbol of our collective dedication to ensuring Tuskegee thrives during this Renaissance period under Dr. Brown’s leadership.”

Dr. Brown, who pledged Alpha Phi Alpha through the Gamma Phi Chapter during his time as a student, expressed his gratitude for the fraternity’s support. “To receive this honor from my brothers is deeply personal,” said Dr. Brown. “Alpha Phi Alpha has always stood for scholarship, service, and leadership — values that align with Tuskegee’s mission. This investment will strengthen our work as we prepare students to solve the world’s most complex problems.”

The gift will support the university’s strategic initiatives as part of The Campaign for Tuskegee University: Solving the World’s Most Complex Problems, which was officially launched during Investiture Weekend.
