National Center for Bioethics in Research and Health Care

Welcome from the Director

Dr. Reuben Warren
Dr. Rueben Warren, Director

Welcome to the Website of the Tuskegee University National Center for Bioethics in Research and Health Care.  I feel honored and privileged to serve as Director of a Center that deals with bioethics from a unique and much needed perspective. I am glad you found us, because we are excited about providing a new institutional voice in cyberspace about bioethics and public health issues that affect communities of color.

One of our tasks is to promote the understanding of bioethics-what it is and how it relates to everyday life.  That includes taking the lessons learned from our difficult past, looking at current issues related to racial disparities in disease and treatment, and showing our visitors how they can be more empowered as healthcare consumers, as well as become more informed research participants.  My hope is that this Website will fill in the gaps about the African American experience in research, health and health care by providing resources and information that are not available anywhere else.

This site is about our yesterdays, today's realities, and our tomorrows. You can discover the legacy of contributions Tuskegee has made to health in this country, learn the truth about more challenging times, and be first to hear about some of the newest trends in bioethical issues.  I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to explore our site, and that you'll come back again and again.  We intend to give you something to think about as well as a new way of viewing issues, particularly those that affect all of us as human beings in terms of flourishing.
