Tuskegee University mourns the loss of Kimberly Baylor Bivins, a former Construction Science professor who once served as Faculty Senate Chair and Interim Construction Science Department chair.

Bivins, who died on May 11, had dedicated over 25 years to the construction industry prior to joining the Construction Science Department as an Assistant Professor from 2013 to 2023 and interim department chair in 2023. She was instrumental in helping the CSM Program earn its first ever ACCE Accreditation in 2017 and its reaccreditation in 2023. Her passion for service carried over to her role as the TU Faculty Senate Chair from 2016-2017.

Earlier this month, the Construction Science and Management Industry Advisory Board for the Robert R. Taylor School of Architecture and Construction Science named her the first inductee into the Construction Science and Management Industry Advisory Board Hall of Fame. The recognition was especially meaningful because Tuskegee is home to the oldest Construction Science and Management program in the United States.

Bivins was an active member of the CSM Industry Advisory Board (TU CSM-IAB) and instrumental in securing funding for the HOAR Construction Lab, which was recently announced on campus.

A homegoing celebration will be held at noon on May 22 at Chambers Funeral Home, 2527 9th Ave. N, Bessemer, Alabama.
