With a noted increase in first-time alumni participation and combined gifts totaling $672,134 nearly 250 forever Golden Tigers gathered last weekend in Memphis for the 22nd Biennial Tuskegee National Alumni Association (TNAA) Convention.
Dr. Mark A. Brown ‘86, Tuskegee's president and CEO sat for a fireside chat with TNAA president Rev. Dr. James P. Quincy, III, about the Tuskegee University Renaissance Era, the transformational success the university is creating to ensure student success, increase post-graduation employment outcomes and advance Tuskegee toward Carnegie R2 status.
“Tuskegee’s enduring legacy and the transformational future ahead of us will always be fueled by alumni who love Mother Tuskegee so deeply and give both their time and treasure so generously,” said Dr. Brown. “For more than a century, our alumni have been an integral part of Tuskegee answering the nation’s call through service, scholarship, and innovation and I am honored to join my fellow alumni in celebrating Tuskegee excellence.”
TNAA members celebrated a weekend of service, leadership, and philanthropy under the theme, "Tuskegee Rising: Honoring Our Legacy, Shaping Our Future." The convention opened with a community service initiative at the Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr. VA Medical Center, where alumni volunteers distributed hundreds of snacks to veterans in appreciation of their service and sacrifice.
"Our convention was a powerful demonstration of what happens when Tuskegee alumni unite around a common purpose," said Dr. Quincy. "From serving our veterans to investing in students and strengthening the future of Tuskegee University, this weekend reflected the very best of our alumni family."
Throughout the convention, alumni from across the nation participated in leadership meetings, networking opportunities, educational workshops, and fellowship activities designed to strengthen the association and advance the mission of Tuskegee University.
TNAA also hosted a Tuskegee University College Fair, encouraging prospective students to see themselves as the next generation of Golden Tigers and becoming part of Tuskegee's rich legacy of excellence and leadership.
During Saturday evening's Crimson and Gold Sneaker Gala, TNAA awarded two $1,000 scholarships to current Tuskegee University students from Memphis and Nashville. The convention concluded Sunday morning with a worship service featuring Rev. Dr. Christopher B. Davis, Sr., President of LeMoyne-Owen College, an HBCU in Memphis.
"Our alumni remain the greatest ambassadors Tuskegee University has anywhere in the world," Dr. Quincy said. "Their passion, generosity, and commitment to recruiting outstanding students, raising critical financial support, and representing our beloved institution continue to shape the future of Tuskegee University. Together, we are honoring our legacy while building an even brighter tomorrow."
